Factors affecting the firm growth in the Greek food and beverage industry
1998
Haggui, F.
The main purpose of this thesis is to present estimates of firm growth obtained by applying a technique that uses a combination of time-series and cross-section data for 124 firms in the Greek food and beverage sector over 1991-1994 period. This type of panel is used in several economic applications where we have a large number of observations on examined firms over a short time period. Firm growth was modelled by incorporating both firm and industry variables, and these could explain clearly its variability. Advertising, market share and diversification were found to be the most important determinants for firm growth, but it is not the case for industry variables. The empirical results provided support for the view that the firm factors have a positive and significant influence on firm growth
