In 1988, Strawberry black spot, caused by a quarantine fungus Colletotrichum acutatum Simmonds, was first confirmed in strawberry fields in Slovenia. The disease spreads mainly by infected transplants and causes heavy loss particularly during warm and wet weather. The disease is significant world wide and is, besides Grey mould, considered second economically most important disease of strawberry. In the years 1999 and 2000 we introduced laboratory techniques for detection and diagnosis of the causative organism and investigated its distribution. The paper describes the survey, presents laboratory techniques used for the diagnosis of the pathogen and reports of its present distribution in strawberry growing areas in Slovenia.
