Effects of plant density on yield and quality of different cultivars of tomato in greenhouse [Lycopersicon esculentum Mill.]

Inglés. A study was conducted in non-heated greenhouse to evaluate the effects of plant spacing on yield and quality of 4 cvs of tomato (Arletta, Max, Vemar and Vemone). Plants were transplanted on February 11 in rows 1 m apart with 2, 4 and 6 plants/square m, and harvested from June 2 to July 15. The lowest yield (86.7 t/ha) was produced by the 2 plants/square m treatment, with the highest mean fruit weight and the highest percentage of fruit dry matter. Cultivars affected fruit shape and fruit characteristics though no differences were detected among the cultivars on yield (on the average 133.3 t/ha)

[E' stato condotto uno studio in serra fredda per valutare gli effetti della distanza di impianto sulla resa produttiva e la qualita' di 4 cultivar di pomodoro (Arletta, Max, Vemar e Vemona). Le piante sono state trapiantate l'11 febbraio in file distanti 1 m con densita' pari a 2, 4, e 6 piante/metro quadrato; la raccolta e' stata effettuata dal 2 giugno al 15 luglio. La resa piu' bassa (86,7 t/ha) si e' avuta nella tesi a 2 piante/metro quadrato, caratterizzata dal peso medio piu' elevato e dalla percentuale piu' elevata di sostanza secca dei frutti. Le cultivar influenzavano la forma e le caratteristiche dei frutti, sebbene non siano state riscontrate differenze riguardanti la resa (in media 133,3 t/ha) fra le stesse]
