The grain yields of studied cultivars were between 6.05 and 7.98 t/ha depending on the cultivar, sowing rate and weather conditions. Higher sowing rate led to increased grain yields in all maize cultivars tested. Denser sowing delayed grain maturation, which was reflected in the greater moisture content of grain at harvest. The number of grains per cob, 1000 grain weight and the weight of grain per cob lowered when the plant density rose. The number of productive cobs per unit area grew, the increase, however was smaller than in the number of plants. As a result, the average number of productive cob per plant declined with growing plant density
