2021
Ikase, Laila
Intensive selection of apple trees is taking place in Belarus, and more than 20 varieties have been obtained in recent years, which resistant to scab. Some of them in recent years also planted in Latvian gardens, but more extensive observations are still lacking. In order to check the suitability of the new varieties of Belarus for Latvian conditions, in Dobele, at the Institute of Horticulture, in 2013–2015, 3 trials for 11 varieties were set up on small rootstocks. The variety ‘Belorusskoje Sladkoje’ before it has been tested for a longer period of time, and it has also been identified as a perspective in Pūre (I. Drudze). Another 5 varieties grafted into the crown have been growing in the Dobele garden since 2016. The article examines in more detail the yield of promising scab-resistant varieties (‘Belorusskoje Sladkoje’, ‘Diyament’, ‘Imant’, ‘Syabrina’and ‘Pamjatj Kovalenko’) in the first years, fruit appearance and taste characteristics, winter hardiness and planting method. Yield and fruit quality of the best new Belarusian apple varieties in 2015–2021 (average data) and the assessment of fruit tasting (average data, 1–5 points) are reflected in the tables.
