Soil tends to be very diverse in Latvia, even in small areas the nutrient content may vary considerably. Wishing to grow fruit for themselves and for sale in different places, a number of cherry plantations have been set up on heterogeneous soils where the supply of phosphorus or potassium (less than 100 and 170 mg/kg) is low in many places or throughout. Basic fertilisation was started on farms, but the nutrient content in the soil is changing very slowly. During the course of the project, we examined whether and to what extent the foliar fertilisers recommended for fruit trees contribute to growth and production on four farms – Kurzeme, Vidzeme, Latgale and Sēlija, where there were both new and producing cherry gardens. In setting up the trials, the garden was divided into control plots, where the agrotechnics used so far continued, and in plots where used foliar fertilizer, in addition to the usual agrotechnics (basic fertilizer, plant protection), fertilizer sprays were still carried out on the leaves. We choose foliar fertilisers for farm trial fields, discussing the problems observed so far in cherry growing. The table 1 shows growth, fruit formation and winter hardness of flower buds on low P or K soils of different species, varieties of sweet and sour cherries. Table 2 shows the abandonment of the fruit, the mass of the fruit and the winter hardness of the flower buds of the cherry varieties ‘Brjanskaya Rozovaya’ and ‘Iputj’ at the bottom and top of the slope in the orchard of the farm “Tauriņi”.
