Agri ziedošu skābo ķiršu šķirnes ‘Latvijas Zemais’ klonu apputeksnēšanās un augļu aizmešanās = Pollination and fruit set of sour cherry cultivar ‘Latvijas Zemais’ early flowering clones
2023
Feldmane, Daina | Dēķena, Dzintra
Flowering time, fertility status and fruit quality differ between various clones of Latvian sour cherry landrace ‘Latvijas Zemais’. The aim of the research was to detect the most suitable cultivars for the pollination of early flowering partially or fully self-infertile clones of ‘Latvijas Zemais’ with qualitative fruit: D7, no. 52, Dumbrava and Piļkas clones. Early flowering cultivars ‘Lida’, ‘Ksenija’ and ‘Latvijas Zemais’ clone no. 62 were tested as the pollinators. The research was carried out in the Institute of Horticulture, Dobele, using the plantation of sour cherry genetic resource collection. Before the flowering, the flower buds were counted on sample branches of early flowering ‘Latvijas Zemais’ clones and then they were isolated using bags of agro-textile. The pollen from pollinatorcultivars were collected and dried for about 18 hours at room temperature. The hand-pollination was done during full bloom once a day, at least 3 times. At the beginning of July, the fruits were counted and fruit set was calculated as the percentage from the flower number. ‘Latvijas Zemais’ clones D7 and Piļkas showed the highest fruit set when pollinated with ‘Latvijas Zemais’ clone No. 62 (17 and 10% respectively). Their fruit set had a positive tendency also after the pollination with cultivars ‘Ksenija’ (4%). ‘Latvijas Zemais’ clone Dumbrava had increased fruit set only after the pollination with ‘Latvijas Zemais’ clone No. 62. The lowest fruit set was shown by ‘Latvijas Zemais’ clone No. 52 which was from 0% in self-pollination to 3% pollinated with Latvijas Zemais’ clone No. 62.
