Dewald, Margaret R.
Abstract: Child care services may be of increasing importance to American society and the quality of service will depend on good training. A curriculum guide for home economics teachers aims to prepare high school students for careers in child care occupations. Concepts, performance objectives and competencies are outlined for 9 topics during the first year of study: orientation; child development (toddlers and preschoolers); learning activities for children; program planning; guidance techniques; self-concept and development; food for children; and health and safety. The second year focuses on preparation for employment; careers in child care; child development (infancy and school-age); exceptional children; child abuse and neglect; early childhood education; equipment; and first aid.
