Abstract: All aspects of infant and child development and education are discussed in 4 major parts. Part One, Human Origins, examines the basic principles of growth and learning and human reproduction. Part Two, Growth Patterns, explores learning and development chronologically, from the interuterine environment through third grade, focusing on the challenges children face as they expand their control over their environment. Part Three, Experience and Learning, covers cognitive development, play, language and affective development. Part Four, Responsibilities of Care-Givers, focuses on the roles adults have in childrearing that are different from peers and siblings ; special attention is given to society's role in child development, the problems of gifted children and developmental problems.
