Description of the first genus of physoderine assassin bugs (Reduviidae, Hemiptera) from the New World | Assassin bugs
1972
Wygodzinsky, Petr | Maldonado Capriles, Jenaro | Fairchild, G. B.
"The reduviid subfamily Physoderinae was known to consist of the large genus Physoderes Westwood, ranging over the Oriental Region and Mauritius, and 11 additional small genera, restricted to Madagascar and the Comoro Islands. The present paper contains the description of the first New World physoderine bug, Cryptophysoderes fairchildi, new genus and species, based on a male and a female collected in a hollow tree in the Canal Zone of Panama. The authors cannot advance any opinion on the zoogeographical relationships of the new genus and its position within the physoderines, because a cladistic system of the subfamily does not yet exist"--P.
