Abstract: A comprehensive sequential method for planning and presenting a speech is discussed in a college-level text. The Table of Contents is organized as a master flowchart to serve as a fully developed structural model or blueprint for speech preparation and presentation. The format of this "blueprint" (and of the text) covers the significance of public speaking; selecting speech topics; using audience analysis for developing a residual message that serves as a guide to the organization and substance of the speech; selecting a plan for designing the body of the speech using various structural designs (3 1-sided and 4 2-sided designs are illustrated); regulating the time and flow of the speech from its structure; choosing the supportive information for the speech structure; filling in the major and minor points to be stressed; outlining and styling the speech and its introduction and conclusions; using informative and persuasive strategies; preparing for delivery; and the importance of active listening. Practical guidelines, information, and summaries are given throughout the text. (wz).
