This book is written in the belief that water is becoming one of the largest, and certainly the most universal, of problems facing mankind as the earth moves into the twenty-first century. The tasks of supplying enough water of the required quality to growing populations and the safe disposal of wastewater as straining many authorities to the limit. Although the problem varies in type and intensity, it is challenging governments of countries at all stages of development, in most parts of the world.
