Extract: This study has a preliminary and exploratory character. The main objective is to describe and discuss the evolution of the Honduran financial system from 1970 to 1981. The system is characterized by the use of the usual indicators in this type of study principally the ratio between the pliabilities of the financial system and the Gross Domestic Product (GDP). The identification of patterns or tendencies within the evolution of the financial system would permit the determination of areas of research and/or major important problems, and also would give an idea of the magnitude and significance of these problems that affect the sector. The second section deals with the evolution of domestic liabilities of the consolidate banking system in rotation to the product. It also identifies the periods of expansion, stagnation, and contraction of the Honduran financial system. Section three researches the behavior of the flow of external capital to the banking system. Section four presents the available information with respect to the evolution of nominal and real interest rates. Other final considerations are discussed in Section five of the study.
