Demography and old age
1983
Grundy, Emily
Current and anticipated variations in the relative proportions of elderly people in populations around the world are reviewed. Attention is given to determinants of the age structure of populations, and the topics of aging and aged populations are defined. The continued aging of the population will have ramifications with respect to health services and economic outlook. Attitudes toward the elderly and aging, and the special characteristics of these attitudes in the current Western world also are considered. A discussion of the probable trends in the aging in populations in developed and developing nations is included. (wz)
