A new Sminthurinus Börner, 1901 species, Sminthurinus koreanus sp. nov. from North Korea is detailedly described and illustrated. The new species seems to be most similar to the Western Siberian Sminthurinus oiskiyensis Bretfeld, 2010 which is the only other Sminthurinus species with three subapical anterior chaetae on dens, but distinguished from S. koreanus sp. nov. by the number of proximal posterior and apical anterior chaetae on dens and by the pigmented small abdomen. Two other species with very similar colouration are Sminthurinus modestus Yosii, 1970 and Sminthurinus orientalis Stach, 1964, from which S. koreanus sp. nov. differs in the serrated inner edge of the mucro, and in the three proximal posterior and three subapical anterior chaetae on dens. A key is provided to all Sminthurinus species of the Sino-Japanese Region.
