Adequate availability of food in quantity and quality is an important aspect in realizing national food security because it can increase access for the population to obtain food. The adequacy rate of energy and protein availability with the quality score of the expected food pattern recommended in the 6th Widyakarya Food and Nutrition in 1998 became an indicator of the assessment of the availability aspect of national food security. The diversity of food security with an average indicator of the availability of nutrients per capita per day is very strong, as indicated by the comparison of availability with the adequacy of energy consumption exceeding 45 percent while protein exceeds 67 percent. However, in terms of food quality, it has not yet reached the quality of the expected food pattern as indicated by the low contribution of fruit, vegetables and animal food in food availability and nutrition. Import support has increased the availability and strengthened national food security, but relying on increased availability from increased domestic food production will be safer and more in favor of the business continuity of food producing farmers, who generally have very small scale businesses and low incomes.
