Metallic splint for stabilization of unilateral fracture of horn at the base in bullocks
2014
Patil, A.S. | Nagaraja, B.N.
An external metallic splint was designed (using iron rings, iron bar, nuts and bolts) and used for immobilizing the simple, unilateral horn fractures (at the base) in 18 bullocks over a period of six years (2007–2012) and maintained for 12 weeks. Clinical union was evident by 4 weeks in all the animals. No complications were recorded up to two years of follow up. The designed splint provided good stability at the fracture site, was of low cost, light weight (0.4–0.7 kg) and could be easily prepared and used at field level.
