Influence of furnish moisture content and press cycle on briquette integrity
1990
Hoag, M.L.
This study investigated the influence of furnish moisture content (MC), dwell time, and compression load on the integrity of Douglas-fir briquettes, as measured by centerline shear strength and density distribution. A briquette mold and shear device were designed for use in a universal testing machine. Shear strength and density of briquettes increased as MC of the furnish increased. However, briquette delamination increased as dwell times and compression loads decreased. There is strong evidence that all factors tested--furnish MC, dwell time, and compression load--are interrelated.
