A survey of host-plants of pieridae (Rhopalocera: lepidoptera) with some new records from Kashmir valley

Butterflies are the delicate creatures known by their beauty and magnificent colours. Besides helping in pollinations, they are considered as indicator taxa. The information especially on the biology and host-plants of butterfly fauna of India including Kashmir Valley is still incomplete. Family Pieridae is a smaller family which represents 7.26% of the Indian butterfly fauna. The present paper gives information about distribution and host-plants of 26 species of butterflies of this family based on the work conducted from 2007–09 in 10 administrative districts in various habitats and previous records of Kashmir Valley. A total of 90 host-plants distributed under 66 genera and 28 families with 21 new records are reported. Information on their distribution in India including Kashmir Valley is also given.
