Interaction of price and credit policies in Costa Rican agriculture
1980
Larson, D.W. | Vogel, R.C.
Extract: The purpose of the present paper is to examine the impact of price, exchange rate and credit policies on the aggregate performance of Costa Rican agriculture during the 1970s. It will be argued that Costa Rica, not unlike many other developing countries, has pursued price, exchange rate and credit policies which have adversely affected the performance of the agricultural sector. The failure of Lizano's study to find a role for prices is due to the failure to use "real" prices (that is, to adjust nominal prices for inflation) and the failure to compare domestic prices with international prices.
