The media need to be aware of the school food service as a source of news. To get the maximum use of mass communication media it is helpful to know how the various forms of communications operate. The explanations, checklists, and samples of a press release and public service announcements illustrate how the media can be used to gain publicity for the school lunch program. Fifteen true-false questions and 10 multiple choice questions on the content of the article may be used to earn ASFSA certification credit. (emc)
