Food allergy in childhood
1985
Cant, A.J.
A literature overview defines food intolerance and food allergy, and describes the pathogenesis, in children, of food-induced allergic reactions, and the role that food allergy may play in certain disease and disorder states (e.g., eczema, asthma, rhinitis, cow's-milk-sensitive enteropathy, colitis, colic, celiac disease, inflammatory bowel disease, migraine, hyperactivity). The incorrect diagnosis of food allergy and the limitations of allergy tests are discussed. The use of exclusion diets and their potential hazards also is described.(wz)
