Effect of genotypes, nutrient levels and seed rates on growth indices of soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merrill) under mid-hill condition of Himachal Pradesh

A field experiment was conducted at Palampur, Himachal Pradesh to evaluate the effect of genotypes, nutrient levels and seed rates on growth indices of soybean. The experiment was laid out in split-plot design comprising of two genotypes (HIMSO 1685 and Harasoya) and two seed rates (75 and 100 kg/ha) in main-plots and four nutrient levels (0, 75, 100 and 125% of recommended dose of nutrients) in sub-plots. The soil of experimental site was silty clay loam in texture, acidic in reaction, low in available nitrogen, and medium in available phosphorus and potassium. The genotype, HIMSO 1685 resulted in the highest values of dry matter, crop growth rate, leaf area index and leaf area ratio while the highest values of plant height and absolute growth rate were in Harasoya. The highest values of dry matter accumulation and crop growth rate were recorded with 75 kg seed/ha. Application of 125% of recommended dose of nutrients resulted in the highest values of absolute growth rate, crop growth rate and plant height while the highest values of dry matter, relative growth rate, leaf area index and leaf area ratio were at 100% of recommended dose of nutrients.
