Moss, M.K. | Golden, B.M.
The Nutrient Composition Laboratory of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has developed an integrated system to manage data and samples to determine the nutrient content of food. The goals of the system are to increase the number of samples that can be analyzed, decrease the time needed for data analysis and establish a common base for test results to ensure convenient access to data. Automated methods development is the major thrust. The system has the capability for sample/data coordination, automatic data acquisition and data reporting. Future automation is projected to include a host computer and satellite computers that will directly acquire and control data. The laboratory management system frees personnel from manual recording tasks and provides a common data base for analytical results.
