Extract: A multipurpose solar energy intensifier system for use on farms in grain drying, livestock ventilation air heating, and water heating is examined for economic feasibility. A framework of analysis is developed which permits integration of performance and reliability factors, climate conditions, and economic assumptions. Computer simulations are carried out to determine the effect of various assumptions on the present worth of savings generated by using the system to substitute for a portion of conventional fuel usage. Results indicate the likelihood of slow commercialization of on-farm solar system, even with multiple uses, unless more rapid rates of increase in conventional energy costs resume.
