Rod weeder soil reacting forces for different rod shapes and speeds
1990
Harrison, H.P. | Bai, X.
The draft and vertical reacting forces and the shaft power were determined for rods having diverse shapes and rotational speeds tilling two dissimilar laboratory soils at two depths. The main effects for these variables tested significant plus a few of the interactions. The draft and vertical reacting forces were a function of the rod shape, speed, and depth and the clay content of the soil. Due to its shape, a fluted rod had the greatest potential for penetration, and in a loam soil, the least draft. Increasing the rod speed decreased the reacting forces, but above 250 rpm, the shaft power offset the decrease in the drawbar power.
