Pancreatic exocrine studies in intact animals: historic and current methods

This report presents a review of the historic and current methods for performing pancreatic exocrine studies in intact animals. Special emphasis is given to the various surgical procedures--pancreatic fistulas, duodenal pouches, and duodenal fistulas--and practice of collecting pancreatic secretion in dogs. Procedures in other animal species--rat, cat, pig, rabbit, cattle, sheep, and horse--are specified. The advantages and disadvantages, as well as the indications and limitations of the distinct methods, are discussed.
