Historical trends in the use of television in health education
1983
Kill, Bette | King, Linda Sue
Health educators have utilized television (TV) for informational and persuasive purposes since it became a public mass medium. An historical review of the use of television is given. Informational messages have been used in the classroom and on public TV; persuasive messages have been developed for commercial TV. Four possibilities exist for utilizing TV in school health education. First, the health educator can draw on past experiences in order to present new ones or update teaching programs. Second, TV can be used to help students evaluate the large amount of information presented to the public. Third, videotape programs can meet specific needs not available from other sources. And, fourth, high school students can develop their own health education programs and put them on videotape. (kbc)
