Intravenous hyperalimentation
1980
Eriksson, Bengt | Douglass, Harold O. Jr
The importance of nutritional support in the survival of patients during treatment for gastrointestinal malignant neoplasms was investigated to determine which factors might be useful in determining the success or failure of the hyperalimentation. Monitoring of 50 patients from 5-109 days provided data from anthropometric measurements, blood analysis, skin tests and urine analysis. Improved chances of survival were found to correlate to increased serum transferrin, total lymphocyte counts and arm muscle circumference. Serum transferrin was the most useful predictor.
