On the Relationship of Bed Load Transport with the Froude Number

The structural resemblance of bed load formulas for dune form of transport, in which dune velocity is calculated by the Snischenko-Kopaliani formula [19] and dune height is determined by flow depth, with the Gladkov-Sohngen formula [4] is studied. The study is based on the State Hydrological Institute database of bed load measurements, also bed load trap measurements are involved. The main result of the work is a bed load discharge formula approximating the data of dune and structureless form of transport. The mean error of the formula is 60%. The formula revealed the unity of bed load transport laws in dune and structureless form: bed load discharge grows with the Froude number in the third power. A dune height formula, that confirmed nonlinearity of its dependence on flow depth, has been obtained. Mutual conditionality of the Froude number and the depth-particle size ratio has been shown, and an empirical relationship between them has been obtained.
