Protein supplements
1978
The editors of "Nutrition & the M.D." believe there is no need for protein supplements for the normal healthy person. The highest RDA of protein is for lactating women, but this can be obtained from daily foods. Athletes' protein requirements are no greater than nonathletes' requirements. Elderly persons who may have a protein deficiency should have nutritional guidance. If prescribed, a protein supplement should be of high biologic value, containing enough of all nine essential amino acids in the right proportion.
