Perception and Control of Fabric Streaks
1987
A highly simplified theoretical mathematical model was developed from the laws of physics and psychology to predict streak and barré intensity in fabrics from yarn properties varying individually or collectively. The model predicts that bulk and luster streaks are most visible in white fabrics, dye streaks are most visible in dark shades at a reflectance of R = 0.16, simultaneous increases or decreases in yarn dye and buUc properties tend to cancel each other and cause streaks from large variations to be much less severe, and the intensity of a streak increases in proportion to the square root of its width and becomes nearly constant above ~3.0 mm.
