Congress exempts pizza from food safety rules

Congress this week approved legislation allowing fast-food restaurants to sell meat-topped pizza to school meal programs and other non-profit institutions without going through federal inspection. In reaching this decision, the Senate reversed its support for a public health standard and full rule-making procedures in deciding whether pizza should be exempt from inspection.
