System based production potential, yield gaps and diversification opportunities in selected zones of India
2010
Based on the studies conducted during 1995 to 2005 at 37 locations representing selected agro-climatic zones under AICRP on CS, the potential yield and yield gaps were worked out. The study have revealed that the systems based productivity gaps ranging from 42 to 149% exist in various agro-eco systems clearly showing that the present level of yield ranging from 3.63 to 5.92 t/ha/year can be Increased to the level ranging from 6.86 to 10.00 t/ha/year with use of improved management. The potential productivity to the tune of 15 to 20 t/ha/year is achievable through substitution/diversification of existing systems. Zones of low and high productivity along with narrow and wide gaps have been identified for due attention to mobilize resources to bridge the yield gaps. The targets of food demands are achievable using diversified approach and adoption of improved management practices. However, the need Is to utilize the opportunities available.
