Michigan study profiles hungry; proposes relief
1987
Michigan State University researchers concerned about the increased participation in Michigan emergency food assistance programs designed a low-cost methodology to determine why people use such assistance and conducted a preliminary study to develop base-line data. The characteristics of the study and its results are discussed. Based on the findings of this study a proposal was made for a future questionnaire study to increase the self-sufficiency of the hungry and to reduce the number of food bank users annually while improving the nutritional quality of the food provided. The nature, methodology, and evaluation strategy of this project are described. A food bank recipient data form is included.
