The effectiveness and time-saving benefits of videotaped dietary instruction have been explored in various settings. The potential for instructing more patients in less time with comparable effectiveness is appealing, especially in the clinical setting where time constraints limit the number of patients the registered dietitian can see. This study was undertaken to assess differences in knowledge retention when nutrition instruction about a low-fat, low-cholesterol diet is presented by one of three different methods: individual instruction by the dietitian, classroom instruction by means of a slide presentation, or videotaped instruction.
