The Growth and Yield of Corn. I. Microclimatic Effects on the Growth Rate
1965
Ragland, J. L. | Hatfield, A. L. | Benoit, G. R.
SynopsisCorn was planted at 3 dates and grown in a well-defined environment. The rates of growth, obtained by serial samplings, were correlated with various microclimatic factors. Leaf area increases of irrigated corn were positively correlated with temperature and relative humidity. Ear growth rates were positively correlated with tempertaures, solar radiation, and water evaporation. Throughout the study plant-to-plant variability tended to obscure the growth rate-climate relationships. Methods of minimising this problem are described.
