Transition nutritionnelle aux Antilles françaises : quels rôles de l’offre et des comportements alimentaires ?
2022
Méjean, Caroline
Despite the urgency regarding increasing rates of obesity and chronic diseases in the French West Indies, as in the whole Caribbean, over the last decades, data on nutrition transition, including changes in unhealthy dietary behaviours, are scarce and incomplete. In this context, the aim of this article is to present an overview of the results obtained in the ANR NuTWInd project (2017–2021), involving nutritionists, epidemiologists, economists, sociologists and researchers in the sensory sciences. The objective of NuTWInd was to characterize the evolution of the food supply, diets and consumers’ choices and their determinants (sensory, social, economic, etc.) in Martinique and Guadeloupe. The aim is to deeply understand the nutrition transition in the French West Indies and to propose strategies for actions both on the supply side and the demand side to improve the nutritional status of population.
