Association Analysis of Yield and Yield Contributing Traits in Semi-Dwarf and Early Mutants of Rice

The present investigation was carried out with the foremost aim of development of semi-dwarf and early mutant in White Ponni by induced variation through mutation using gamma rays without altering its native quality traits. The pre-requisite for identifying the characters that are directly controlling the yield is to study the magnitude of associations between yield and yield component traits. Among the biometric traits studied in White Ponni mutants of M₃ generation, the traits panicle length and 4ᵗʰ internodal length showed positive and significant association with grain yield. The extent of relationship among the yield components should be known toaid the breeder in the simultaneous improvement of different traits along with grain yield. The present study focused to determine the inter-correlation between different traits which revealed that, the trait plant height was positively correlated with the traits panicle length, primary culm length, secondary culm length, 1ˢᵗ internodal length, 2ⁿᵈ internodal length, 3ʳᵈ internodal length, 4ᵗʰ internodal length and thousand grain weight in selected mutants of White Ponni. The selectionbased on the above traits highly influences the grain yield ofthe mutants and provides indirect selection of these traits would ultimately increase the yield quantum.
