Industrial modeling and output estimates of the ground beef industry
1980
Sink, J.D.
Ground beef processing model and methods to estimate major output and production parameters were developed. Inputs for the production model are boneless beef, beef trimmings, and, if allowed, extenders. Output estimates for these products are based on relatively complete data on ground beef production available from federal inspection. A formula has been worked out to measure total domestic production on data available for all ground beef and extender use. Increasing federally-inspected ground beef production, the competitive nature of the industry, an increasing number of ground beef processing plants, and the increasing importance of ground beef to the industry as a whole are all part of the change toward increased output. All indications for the future of ground beef production during the 80's are for continued growth unless both domestic and foreign supplies of raw materials become limited.
