Kim, S.K. | Caldwell, N.R.
Extract: The dietary status of 104 independent-living persons with a mean age of 68.3 years was investigated during winter and summer seasons. Questionnaires and checklists of personal data, eating habits and food choices were used as data collection instruments. The study revealed that the dietary intakes of energy, calcium, and vitamin A were not adequate for a number of persons in the winter. An improvement was seen in the summer months for energy and vitamin A for males but not females. Although intakes of calcium for the males and females improved during summer, calcium intake in the diet was the nutrient still lacking for 38 percent of the population in the summer.(author)
