Effect of Planting Time and Photoperiod on Tephrosia vogelii
1966
Irvine, J. E. | Freyre, R. H.
Twenty-six consecutive plantings of Tephrosia vogelii were made at 2-week intervals at Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, to determine the effect of planting time on growth rate, flowering, and rotenoid content. The replicated plantings showed that maximum growth occurred in the spring, irrespective of planting time. Flowering occurred as a photoperiodic response to a 13-hour day or to an interrupted night. Leaf-rotenoid content as measured by the red-color test was lowest in spring and highest in fall in plants of the same age.
