THE Dynamics of leptinotarsa decemlineata populations on tomato¹
1974
LATHEEF, M.A. | HARCOURT, D.G.
As part of an overall study of population regulation in Leptinotarsa decemlineata ecological life tables were developed for a 3-year period on tomato in eastern Ontario. Component and graphical key factor analyses of twelve life tables revealed that mortality from physiological causes during the larval stage is the key factor that regiments populations on this crop. Fluctuations in generation survival are damped by direct response of the tachinid, Doryphorophaga doryphorae (Riley) which acts as a stabilizing agent. The role of secondary hosts in the population dynamics of the beetle is discussed.
