The role of the parent in the management of a child with diabetes in discussed. The importance of permitting the child to enjoy as normal a life as possible is stressed. Parents need to understand their own feelings of anxiety and avoid overprotection of the child. The importance of the composition and caloric content of the diet and the necessity for daily insulin injections require parental education. Questions frequently asked by parents of diabetic children are included.
