Web presence of U.S. primary wood products exporters
2000
Pitis, O.T. | Vlosky, R.P.
This Technical Note examines the use of the World Wide Web by primary wood products exporters. Data for the study were collected by a mail survey conducted in February and March of 1999, comprising 324 firms. The adjusted response rate of the survey was 45.7 percent. Results indicate that respondents used the Web mostly for promotion activities. Although value-chain and business processes are currently less frequently used on respondent websites, they are expected to experience the highest growth within the next 2 years. Using a website, respondents primarily target new customers, both foreign and domestic. Few respondents fry to reach foreign audiences by addressing them in their native tongue. The study did not find that multilingual websites are likely to be more successful than English-only websites.
