Relationship of Soil Phosphorus to Fertilizer Response of Irrigated Forage
1966
Read, D. W. L.
Sodium bicarbonate-extractable P in the soil was related to fertilizer response of brome grass-alfalfa mixnares at nine irrigated locations in southwestern Saskatchewan. Phosphatic fertilizer increased the yield and phosphorus content of the forage over that from unfertilized plots on soils with less than 10 ppm bicarbonate extractable phosphorus, but not on soils with more than 20 ppm. The difference attributable to soil P was more distinct when the response from NP fertilizer, was compared to that from N alone. Soil texture, frequency of application of fertilizer, and irrigation intensity had little effect on the relative response to fertilizer.
