Successful treatment by hemilaminectomy of a T1-T2 disk hernia | Un cas de hernie discale T1-T2 traité par hémilaminectomie
2013
Lody, D. | Leperlier, D.
A 7-year-old male dachshund was referred for recent worsening of a 2-year long-lasting hind limb ataxia. Pain was elicited on palpation at the cranial thoracic and thoracolumbar junction. CT myelography reveals a herniated disc at the T1-T2 and T11-T12 levels. Surgical treatment by hemilaminectomy was performed and revealed an acute disc hernia and a chronic disc hernia, respectively at the T1-T2 and T11-T12 levels. One month and a half after surgery, no pain was observed but a discreet proprioceptive deficit persisted on the left hind limb. For anatomical reasons thoracic disc herniations are rare. This is the first description of a hernia T1-T2 responding favorably to surgical treatment. Hemilaminectiomy is probably the technique of choice at this level.
