Onchocerca volvulus, proliferation of human lymphocytes induced by mitogens was inhibited by parasite extract (OVA), inhibition was not due to cytotoxic effect of OVA, passage of OVA through immunosorbent column containing human antibodies to O. volvulus reduced suppressive activity of OVA, immunosuppression can be mediated by OVA-pretreated cells in co-culture system, results suggest that O. volvulus antigens may participate in induction of non-specific suppressor cells
