Herbal teas...often nice, sometimes noxious
1978
The growing popularity of herbal teas brewed from rose petals, willow bark, senna, dandelion leaves and numerous other herbs is causing toxic effects in users. Severe abdominal cramps, diarrhea, anaphylactic shock, allergic rhinitis and even deaths have been reported among persons drinking herbal teas. Improper identification of herbs has been responsible for some fatalities including an elderly couple that drank tea brewed from foxglove leaves they mistook for a harmless plant. Physicians should caution patients and parents about the dangers of herbal teas.
