Ecological control of the bacterial diarrheas: A scientific strategy
1978
Keusch, Gerald T.
A review of the pathogenesis and physiological mechanisms involved in acute bacterial diarrhea suggests six different strategies for control of these infections. Antibacterial therapy, receptor megatherapy, receptor blockade, elution therapy, physiological pharmacology, and physiological antagonism are discussed. A table summarizes principles of each technique and gives examples. Much work remains to be done to transform these possibilities (basic research goals) into feasible and practical measures (applied research goals) for developing nations.
